Check the test schedule, choose the time that works best for you and email us or call us at 613-836-5787 to advise which test sessions the player will be attending.  Remember to pick a Physical test session and a Technical test session.

If you are trying for the U12 or U14 Academy programs you must also attend a tactical testing time.  This will be in the form of a scrimmage and will be done outdoors.  Check the schedule for day, time and location.  If you have a 1998 trying out for the U12 Academy they should attend a 12 to 14 physical testing time slot but can attend their own age level technical testing time slot..

Youth Development (ages 10 - 21)

Ages 10 to 12 (1.5 hour session)

This programming promotes individual technical and physical skill learning through challenging and fun station training. These programs are highly recommended for Representative players wishing to improve their skills, as well as for any players wishing to make the transition from Recreational to Representative play.

The participants in this program will also have the opportunity to participate in up to six 7 v 7 development games on a separate evening of the week.  The development games will be played at the Kanata Soccer Dome, Thunderbird Sports Centre.  .

All players registering for the youth development will participate in two assessment sessions during the last two weeks of September. There will be one physical testing session and one technical testing session.  Testing protocol.

The information from these tests will be used to 1) help sort the players into the appropriate winter development groups; 2) help place the players within their winter development group with others that are at the same level of skill development; and 3) to complete a mid-term individual player development report card.  The testing will occur again prior to the Christmas break.   This information will be used with subjective assessments to prepare a report card (handed out during week #11) to each player of the group.  The goal of this report card is to show each player his/her strengths and weaknesses and give each player time to improve prior to spring representative tryouts.

Using a station coaching approach, players in these programs learn to apply their individual skill to the game situation. The goal is to use that skill to develop tactically flexible and intelligent players. A tactically flexible player is an adaptable player and able to cope successfully with change on the field. To achieve this, individual technique on demand is required; thus, the need to blend skill and strategy within the training session. Enrolment is limited in each group in order to ensure a high-quality learning environment.

The participants in this program will also have the opportunity to participate in up to 6 development games on a Saturday or Sunday at the Carleton Field House. The games will be 9v9 on 2/3 field.

All players registering for the youth development will participate in two assessment sessions during the last two weeks of September.  There will be one physical testing session and one technical testing session.

Coach to player ratio within each group will be 1 to 6 to a maximum of 1 to 10.

  • Register for your age category.  Coaches will place players according to player's individual skill level. See Placement Criteria for more information.

  • Movement between groups may happen mid-season, depending on individual progress

  • Maximum group sizes will be maintained.

Player Placement Process

During winter development all players will undergo testing over the first two sessions.  This testing will be used to help produce mid-term individual player assessments.

If prior to the start of a program, a group has more participants registered than can be accommodated, all participants will be invited to attend the initial two week testing process.   What players are eventually selected to the group will be based on the test results and the following criteria:

1)     Returning Kanata Soccer members from the summer 2007 season that applied during the early registration period will be given first priority;

2)     All others that applied during the early registration period will be given the next level of priority; and

3)     All applicants whose registration is received after the early registration period, regardless of summer affiliation, will be given the lowest priority.

Note: Regardless of test results, a lower priority applicant will not bump a higher priority applicant.  Test results will be used within each priority category to help rank applicants for placement in the group.   This ranking will continue through the categories from highest to lowest priority until the maximum enrolment limit has been reached for that group.

Where an applicant(s) does not make the cut for placement in his/her preferred age group, overflow groups will be established.  These groups will most likely consist of at least two chronological age levels (e.g., An under twelve overflow group would most likely contain players aged 11 and 12).  The creation of an overflow group will be determined by the number of applicants still waiting to be placed in a group.
