Soccer for Adults

New this year – Adult House League – For players 20 and older.  This year we will be offering an adult only house league program on Sunday mornings or afternoons.  We’ll have a Men’s league and a Women’s league, but they can only run if there are enough players.

Adult (Senior) Soccer - For players from ages 19 (approximately - younger players could qualify) and up. There are 7 divisions in the Ontario Carleton Soccer League and Kanata has selected men's and women teams in both Competitive and Recreational  divisions. We are always looking for players.

There will be try-outs for all adult teams, except house league, in April and May. Tryout ScheduleTryouts are only for players interested in playing for one of Kanata's representative teams that play in the Ottawa Carleton Soccer League (OCSL). Adult house league will have an evaluation day near the end of May to sort out teams and hand out uniforms, etc.

We are currently seeking coaches for our Women's Premier and our Men's C4 teams.  Please complete the coaching application and submit it to Mike Watson, Director of Adults.

Old Timers Soccer for Men - Is alive and very well. The age requirement is 35 or over. Again, the Old-Timers participate in the OSCL, which currently has 5 divisions of Oldtimers. There are approximately 12 teams per division.

Recreational Women's Soccer, for Women Over 30 One of the fastest growing segments of our club is the Women's Soccer Program, for women over the age of 30. We currently have 8 teams playing in a house league on Sunday evenings, and four teams representing Kanata Soccer in the Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League.  For 2008 we expect to have three teams in the GLSL and at least 8 teams in our house league program.

A new offering this year is the Women Over 40 league, operated by the GLSL.

1.  Introduction

A busy year is planned for adult members of the Kanata Soccer Club with the addition of a few new items.

For the first time ever KSC is proud to offer, for players 20 years and older, an adult only house league program on Sunday mornings or afternoons. We will have a Men’s league and a Women’s league, but they can only run if there are enough players registered.

KSC plans to field 5 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams in various adult divisions in the Ottawa Carleton Soccer League. The OCSL is a competitive league where all divisions require traveling to other parts of the city to play other Ottawa area clubs. Tryout schedules will be posted on the KSC website during summer registration. Outdoor tryouts will begin in early April and run until early May. The games begin the week of the May Victoria Day long weekend.

Old Timers Soccer for Men very popular as always. The age requirement is 35 or over. Again, the Old-Timers participate in the OSCL, which currently has 5 divisions of Oldtimers.

Recreational Women’s Soccer for Women Over 30 is one of the fastest growing segments of our club. We currently have 8 teams playing in a house league on Sunday evenings, and three teams representing Kanata Soccer in the Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League. A new offering this year is the Women Over 40 league, operated by the GLSL.

Come join one of our teams and have some fun over the summer. For more information on any of our adult programs, please contact Mike Watson at adults@kanatasoccer.com .

Schedule and teams to be determined

3.  Tryouts

Senior OCSL teams’ tryouts will begin at the beginning of April (outdoors).  Tryout schedules will be posted during summer registration.

4.  Year end fun tournament

There will be a year-end friendly tournament to provide the Kanata Soccer club adult members a chance to meet one another.  The idea is a grab bag tournament; meaning the teams will be composed of all levels and both sexes of KSC adult players.  For example one team may be composed of 3 men competitive players, 4 women competitive, 4 men recreational and 4 women recreational players.  The idea is to have a fun day playing soccer and it doesn’t matter who wins.  The tournament may also be expanded to include family members.   The tournament will be used as a fundraiser for a worthy cause.  The preference is to have a cause that is local, so to give back to the community where most of our members reside.  This year’s tournament is planned for Sept. 6th.  More information will be provided during the summer.

5.  Adult fall league

Please contact Mike Watson at adults@kanatasoccer.com if you would be interested in participating in an adult fall house league program.  Please let Mike know if you would prefer a gender specific or co-ed league.

7.  OCSL player card policy

Please refer to OCSL rules and regulations for complete details at www.ocslonline.ca.

How do I get my player card?

Every adult player in the OCSL or GLSL is required to have their OSA ID card with them at all games.   This card used a digital photo, that must conform to the specs required for the card printer.

  • Before the season starts,  come to the Kanata Soccer office to have your photo taken.  We will send the photos in the proper format to the EODSA who will return the cards to the Club, to be picked up by the team coach or manager.

  • The Kanata Soccer office is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8.

  • After the season starts, once you have been assigned to a team you will be able to go to the EODSA office, located at 1150 Morrison Dr. Suite 303.  EODSA office staff will take your photo but will not issue the card while you wait.

Things to be aware of as a team official:

At each game, ensure that you bring:

·  An official team roster (for EODSA teams).

·  Any necessary permits.

·  Signed valid OSA player identification cards (or approved ID for out of district teams) and permit (if applicable), for every player must be available at every game in which he/she participates.

Procedure

The referee will begin the card checking process at least 10 minutes before the scheduled kick-off. They will start by collecting the game sheets and by calling each team together with their ID cards to continue the process. The referee will validate the OSA approved ID as listed above against the game sheet. They will be checking to make sure that the name on the card and the game sheet are the same and the player who is standing in front of them is the player pictured on the card. The referee will place an X or Ö in the appropriate column (see illustration).

Team officials still have the right to verify the official roster during this process.

However, roster verification by team officials will not be permitted to delay the start of the game.  If a player’s valid OSA identification and permit (if applicable) is not available it must be noted on the game sheet by the referee and the player shall be considered ineligible to play. The referee should tell you if one of your players doesn’t have a card before the game starts. However, you may want to verify that everything is okay. At that point, it is your responsibility as the team official to scratch any player off the game sheet and not let them play. It is not up to the referee to force you to bench your player. Any team playing an ineligible player will be subject to corrective action in addition to the forfeiture of points.

The team and game officials need to initial the game sheets in the appropriate area to confirm that the card checking process has taken place (see illustration 2).

Players arriving late

Players who arrive after the first half has started but before the start of the second half ARE eligible to play immediately. However, at halftime the player needs to show their OSA approved ID card to the referee and the referee will then check them off on the game sheet.

The same rules apply with regards to ID and eligibility. Players arriving after the second half has started are NOT eligible to play.

Referee harassment

Players/coaches have to comply with the card checking rules and procedures. Any club official, team official, or player involved in the harassment of the game official(s) with regards to the above rules will be subject to corrective action and possible expulsion from the league.

REMEMBER: NO CARD, NO PLAY.
