Session 1 - Physical Literacy: Physical Literacy refers to
the mastering of fundamental motor skills and fundamental
sport skills. Physical literacy is the foundation for all
future physical activity and sport, just as learning the alphabet
is the foundation of reading and writing. Richard will provide
an overview of this concept, why it is important, and what
can be done to promote physical literacy for sport participants
from ages 4-9.

Session 2 - Active From the Start: Lack of activity is an
encumbering factor in children's healthy development. One
solution to that problem is to encourage unstructured, active
play. Silken will discuss some practical solutions that can
be easily implemented in our communities, including the establishment
of a Community Action Network.

Session3 – The Game is the Greatest Teacher: CSA
Community Development coach Sean Fleming will show
us that sometimes less structure can mean more
development. Canadian youth soccer programming will be
compared and contrasted with various programs from
around the world. Sean will describe how just playing
soccer and other game-related activities is fun and
challenging for kids, and is also a very helpful component
in their development.

Session 4 -The Sport Kids Want – Participant-center
programming ideas: In this presentation, Bob Bigelow will
look at how programs can be designed to meet children's,
not adult's needs. He will discuss how overly competitive
programs can actually hinder the development of children
aged 7-9. Other topics will include meaningful playing time
for all participants, limiting the amount of coaching done
during games and encouraging participation in a variety of
sports as a way to prevent burn-out and promote overall
development.

Banquet and Silent Auction
Keynote Address:
Physical
inactivity and unhealthy lifestyle choices negatively
impact
our children’s physical, mental and emotional
development.
Too many children today will arrive at adulthood
encumbered by overweight/obese and unhealthy bodies,
in addition to depressed spirits. One simple solution is to
encourage and facilitate as much unstructured, active play
as possible. Silken will discuss some fun and practical
solutions that can be easily implemented into our
neighbourhoods and communities, into our busy schedules
and unique family situations. Rediscover the power of
child’s play!
Fabulous items will also be available for you to bid on at the
Silent Auction.
