LTAD Opening Session
Hosted by Dina Bell-Laroche
This session begins with an introduction to Canada's plan for LTAD, followed by the discussion of key issues and FUNdamentals. The plenary session will be lead by True Sport consultant Dina Bell-Laroche and will include presentations from: Silken Laumann, Richard Way, Bob Bigelow and Sean Fleming.

Session 1 Physical Literacy
Hosted by Richard Way
Physical Literacy refers to the mastering of fundamental motor skills and fundamental sport skills. Physical literacy is the foundation for all future physical activity and sport, just as learning the alphabet is the foundation of reading and writing. Richard will provide an overview of this concept, why it is important, and what can be done to promote physical literacy for sport participants from ages 4-9.

Session 2 Active From the Start
Hosted by Silken Laumann
Lack of activity is an encumbering factor in children's healthy development. One solution to that problem is to encourage unstructured, active play. Silken will discuss some practical solutions that can be easily implemented in our communities, including the establishment of a Community Action Network.

Session 3 The Game is the Greatest Teacher
Hosted by Sean Fleming
CSA Community Development coach Sean Fleming will show us that sometimes less structure can mean more development. Canadian youth soccer programming will be compared and contrasted with various programs from around the world. Sean will describe how just playing soccer and other game-related activities is fun and challenging for kids, and is also a very helpful component in their development.

Session 4 The Sport Kids Want, Participant-center programming ideas
Hosted by Bob Bigelow
In this presentation, Bob Bigelow will look at how programs can be designed to meet children's, not adult's needs. He will discuss how overly competitive programs can actually hinder the development of children aged 7-9. Other topics will include meaningful playing time for all participants, limiting the amount of coaching done during games and encouraging participation in a variety of sports as a way to prevent burn-out and promote overall development.

LTAD Panel Discussion
Hosted by Dina Bell-Laroche
Panel includes: Silken Laumenn, Richard Way, Bob Bigelow and Sean Fleming This will be a moderated discussion with the four guest speakers to address specific questions on the Active Start (ages 4-6) and FUNdamentals (ages 7-9) stages. Audience members will also have an opportunity to ask questions about LTAD and soccer development to the panel.

Club Excellence

Keynote, Banquet and Silent Auction
Silken Laumann
Physical inactivity and unhealthy lifestyle choices negatively impact our children's physical, mental and emotional development. Too many children today will arrive at adulthood encumbered by overweight/obese and unhealthy bodies, in addition to depressed spirits. One simple solution is to encourage and facilitate as much unstructured, active play as possible. Silken will discuss some fun and practical solutions that can be easily be implemented into our neighborhoods, communities, into our busy schedules and unique family situations. Rediscover the power of child's play!

Fabulous items at the Silent Auction will also be available for you to bid on.
