OUTDOOR SOCCER
When does registration start?

Registration for summer programs begins on February 1st.  The early registration period ends on March 31st.  After this date, additional fees will apply.  Your registration is considered complete once you have submitted the waiver, either online or by completing a registration form, and providing payment.  Players registering to tryout for a Kanata Soccer or WOS team are considered registered to the Club as of that date and will receive the early regsitration discount for their summer team registration, regardless of how late tryouts go.  So, if your child is selected to a team in April, they will still receive the early regsitration discounted rate for their rep team fee.

When does the outdoor season start?
The outdoor season starts after May 15 and runs until the 3rd or 4th week of August for Development and Recreation, and into early September for Representative.

How do I tell what age group my child is in?
We use the age your child will be at the end of the year.  For example, if your child was born in 2000, he/she is considered to be a 10 year old for the summer 2010 season.

My child wants to try out for a competitive team.  What are the added commitments?
Teams in our representative programs practice at least once a week and play one game per week.  They may also attend 1-3 tournaments per season.  You can find detailed information on commitment levels here.

What equipment do I need?
Development and recreational players will need soccer shin guards, soccer socks, and comfortable shorts (no zippers). We recommend that all players wear outdoor soccer cleats. We will provide either a training shirt or jersey, depending on your program.  Representative players will need soccer shin guards and outdoor cleats.  Please note that OSA Published Rules prohibit the wearing of any jewelry on the field.

Jewellery
No item of jewellery of any sort will be allowed on the field of play, even if it is ‘taped’.
This includes but not limited to necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather or rubber bands or visible body piercings. Loose beaded hair is also not permitted unless tied back or covered by a net.
Exceptions to this interpretation are:
• Smooth wedding bands, which, when the referee is convinced cannot be removed may be taped.
• Medic Alert Bracelets are allowed but must be taped. The taping should be such that the description of the medical problem is clearly visible.
Headwear
• Hats - No hats are allowed on the field of play.
Exceptions to this interpretation are:
1. The goalkeeper may wear a hat
2. A player may be permitted for medical reasons on the presentation of a letter signed by a medical professional and validated by the District Association and a copy to the OSA.
a. the hat may not be a baseball cap, and
b. If cap has a peak it must face forwards and have a soft peak. and
c. contains no metal or plastic parts
• Bandanas - no bandanas are allowed.
• Sweat bands - no sweatbands are allowed.
• Head protectors: only those permitted by FIFA are allowed.
• Eyeglasses: are allowed if they are sports spectacles and are safe for the players themselves and for other players. Materials such as metal or glass are not acceptable. In recreational and house league games referees are expected to show common sense and allow spectacles as long as the basic principals of Law 4 are met.
For all Kanata Soccer recreational (house league) games, referees are expected to apply the basic principles (ensure that glasses are not broken or have a sharp edge). However, at the recreational level, the “streetwear” eyeglasses are acceptable to the club and referees are directed to let the players play while wearing these eyeglasses. Note that wearing non-prescription eyeglasses (i.e. pure sunglasses) is not acceptable by any player at any time.
Orthopedic Supports, e. g. Knee Braces
FIFA Circular 863 states that the vast majority of commercially manufactured supports are safe to use. The major concern is not the ‘hardness’ of the equipment alone, rather that any part of it can cut or wound another player. Any support must be safe for all players, and adequately padded and covered if necessary.
Casts
Players wearing a soft cast will be permitted to play if the cast does not present a danger to him/herself or any other player. All casts must be adequately padded by suitable material such as foam or “bubble wrap”.
Prosthetics
A player wearing a prosthetic device should be allowed to play providing the basic principals of Law 4 are met.
Footwear
Referees are encouraged to incorporate a footwear inspection in the pre-match safety check of players’ equipment. - Poorly maintained studs or blades on the sole of the boot can constitute a danger. - When inspecting footwear, referees are to be alert to the possibility of the edge of the blades or studs developing rough areas on either the plastic or metal used in their construction. -These burrs can become very sharp and have been the cause of lacerations to opponents. A referee who is concerned over the condition of blades or studs should refuse their use until such time as the unsafe condition has been removed.
Jerseys
All jerseys must have sleeves. The players may not roll the sleeves up or tie them at the shoulder level.

How can I find out what day of the week my child will be playing?
Information on game nights is posted here.  Your practice night will be decided by your coach and that information will be given to you at the start of the season.

What types of adult soccer do you offer in the Summer?
We offer Men’s and Women’s open age and age restricted teams.  In the open age teams (18+) we offer recreational and competitive play.  The Men’s Oldtimers division is for men over 35, with games on Friday evenings.  We have two leagues for women over 30, the GLSL (Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League) and our own Women’s House League Program. Games are on Sunday evenings.    In 2010 we plan to enter a team into the OCSL Men Over 50 division, with games Friday evenings.  We also plan to enter a team into the GLSL Women Over 40 division.  Due to increased demand for soccer for women over 40, we are also offering a rec league division.  Women Over 40 games will all be on Friday evenings.

Now that I have registered, what happens next?
Recreation and Development (age 4 to 7) - You will receive a call from your child’s coach at least a week before season kick-off which is the week of the May long weekend.  The coach will provide you with a schedule and where your games will be played each week. The regular outdoor season games are played on the same day each week. Once you know your child’s team number, you can access their game schedule at anytime via our website.

Representative – You will be required to attend testing sessions and tryouts.  It is your responsibility to know when those sessions are being held.  Tryouts begin in February and continue through March and April depending on the age and level of team you are trying out for.  You can find tryout information here.  If you are not successful in making a representative team you must notify the club if you would like to be placed on a recreational team.

How are rec (house) league teams formed?
The main focus of our house league is to form teams that are as even as possible.  Convenors use information from previous coaches, as well as age to create the teams.  There are no tryouts for any of our rec league teams.

The field is not close to my home, can I change teams?
We do our best to have young players play close to home but that is not always possible.  You might drive by a field closer to your home with soccer players on it, but they are likely a different age group or it is such a populated area that we have more players than a field will accommodate.  We cannot change your field location after the groups have been formed.

How far will I have to travel for my child to play soccer in the summer?
We try to locate young player close to home.  In our U9 to U11 house league programs, we divide the league into two divisions, North of the Queensway and South of the Queensway.  You will have a home practice field on that side of the Queensway and you will travel throughout that side of the Queensway to play your games.  At U13 and older, you will be travelling throughout Kanata for your games and practices.

Do you have make-up games for games that are cancelled?
We do not have the field time or space to re-schedule games that are cancelled due to weather.  Often times though, two house league teams may decide to re-play their game on one of their practice nights and fields.

Do you have standing for house league on the website?
We keep standings for divisions U13 and up.  You can find house league standings on this website under Schedules – Summer Schedules

My child cannot attend the schedule testing time for their Youth Rep team tryouts, is there another date available?
We only run testing on the scheduled times, there will be no make-up times available.

What happens if my child tries out for a representative team but isn’t selected?
If your child is not selected for a representative team and you would like him/her to play on a recreational team, you must make that request to the office.  If your child was registered with the Club before April 1 you will receive the early registration fee for summer recreation soccer.  Tryout fees are non-refundable so if your child does not make a representative team and you do NOT want them to play in our recreational league, you do not need to do anything else.

What do I do if the weather is bad?
Games and practices may be cancelled due to inclement weather or poor field conditions. It is in the referee's discretion to cancel a game should he/she deem that necessary.

Do I need a player card?

Every player in the ERSL, EODSA League, GLSL and OCSL, and team officials in the ERSL, are required to have their OSA ID card with them at all games.  This card uses a digital photo, that must conform to the specs required for the card printer.  The photo card is valid for three years for Youth players and five years for Adult players.

  • Before the season starts,  come to the Kanata Soccer office to have your photo taken.  We will send the photos in the proper format to the EODSA who will return the cards to the Club, to be picked up by the team coach or manager.

  • The Kanata Soccer office is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and on Monday evenings from 5 - 7 pm.

  • Staff will be present at the U9 tryouts on April 11 and 17 to take the player photos.

  • After the season starts, once you have been assigned to a team you will be able to go to the EODSA office, located at 1150 Morrison Dr. Suite 303.  EODSA office staff will take your photo but will not issue the card while you wait.  It will be available for pick up at the Kanata Soccer office.

  • Replacement player cards are $2, which will be collected when we take your photo.  The fee will be waived for players who are new to Kanata Soccer, new to the Representative program or who present an expired card.

INDOOR SOCCER
When does registration start?

Indoor registration begins on August 12th.  The early registration discount period ends in early September (date to be determined). After that early registration period, additional fees apply.

How long is the indoor season?
The indoor season runs from approximately the second week of October to just before the March break.  Some programs, particularly development programs for older age groups, end at the Christmas break in order to allow us to schedule tryouts starting in January.

What equipment do I need?
You will need soccer shin guards, soccer socks, and comfortable shorts (no zippers).  We recommend wearing outdoor soccer cleats on our indoor turf.  We will provide either a training shirt or jersey, depending on your program.

How do I tell what age group my child is in?
Because the indoor season spans two calendar years, we must use the age that your child will be at the end of the second year.  For example, if you child was born in December 2000, your child will be considered a 10 year old for the winter 2009/2010 season even though he/she is only 8 at the time of registration.

How do I choose between House League and Development?
If your child is interested in improving his/her skills, no matter what their present skill level, then a development program is appropriate.  If you child only wants to play games, then the house league program is the right choice.

Top

You have several development programs, how do I know which one is right for my child?
One of the goals of Kanata Soccer is to provide training for children with all different skill levels.  See the Program Guide for detailed information.

I have chosen a program and timeslot for my child.  Will that timeslot change?
We do reserve the right to alter timeslots depending on the number of players registered for a program.  We will provide you with an alternative.  If that alternative is not suitable to you, we will issue you a full refund.

What types of adult soccer do you offer?
We offer a men’s Over 35 league and a women’s Over 30 league.  We take registration by team in the winter time.  If you are an individual looking to join a team, we may be able to match you with a team looking for players.  Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for help with this.

Now that I have registered, what happens next?
You will receive a call from your child’s coach at least a week before season kick-off.  The coach will provide you with a schedule. The regular indoor season games are played on the same day each week. Once you know your child’s team number, you can access their game schedule at anytime via our website.

What do I do if the weather is bad?
Our programs will continue to run through most weather conditions.  The only time we would cancel programs is if we were unable to keep access lanes clean for emergency vehicles to approach the building.  In the outstanding circumstance where we cancel programs, a notice will be posted on this website.

Where do I find standings for my child’s league?
We keep standing for age groups 12 and up.  You can find them on this website at schedules – Winter Schedules – Winter League
