Player Development Philosophy of the West Ottawa Winter Development Program
Program Guide for program description, times, dates, fees, coaches and location. Online Registration Soccer is a game like no other where such a large number of players work together to possess the ball with the objective to score a goal. The greatest outcome from good development is to create players who understand the skills necessary to play as a team.
While learning to share the ball with others is the main goal, the major concern of the West Ottawa Winter Development program is mastery of the ball. Before players can learn how to share the ball well with others, they need to learn how to make it do what they want it to. Ball mastery is the main focus of the majority of the programs available. Even with the addition of a game component to the winter programs line-up, the focus still remains ball mastery. Futsal is FIFA's official indoor soccer game which is, essentially, a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. It is a small sided game (5v5). Futsal encourages ball mastery and focuses on the essentials of Control Look Decide Play (CLDP), introduced to West Ottawa Soccer in the spring of 2010 as a major initiative for player development.
However, before a player can become comfortable controlling the soccer ball, he/she must be comfortably in command of their own body’s movements. Canadian children today are not as physically literate as in previous decades. Physical literacy is competent and confident command of one’s body and involves mastery of the fundamental skills which form the foundation of all sporting activities. West Ottawa Soccer Development programs for our youngest participants ensure that mastery of the body is achieved along side ball mastery.
Before learning to play proper soccer by sharing the ball with others; before learning to master the ball; and even before learning to master the body comes the long journey of mastering values. West Ottawa Soccer’s programming is based on values-driven training as prescribed by the True Sport organization.
All programs, except where otherwise indicated, will be held at our indoor facility at the Thunderbird Sports Centre, Home of Kanata Soccer, 1927 Richardson Side Road. (map). We have two indoor fields, the "Dome" (our original field, location of all adult league games) and the "Butler", located in the main building. Access to both fields is through the main entrance. There is still time available for outside bookings - book time for exhibition games for your team, a weekly training session or a birthday party or other special event.
